Suspected Caravan of Asylum Seekers Traveling Through Mexico Turns Out to be Penniless Spring Breakers Returning From Cancun

Matias Romero, Mexico (TDP) – A group of 1,000 haggard travelers wandering through Mexico heading north towards the U.S. border has been positively identified.  Originally thought to be Central American refugees seeking asylum in the United States, the group is actually made up of hundreds of penniless American college students returning home from Spring Break in Cancun.

“We didn’t realize the all-inclusive vacation package only included one-way air fare,” commented Scott Bryant, a 19-year-old student from Becker College.  “But between that and the 12-to-a-room accommodations at the Fiesta Americana Condesa, we saved mighty bucks.”

The caravan has become a hot political topic within the current U.S. administration.  President Donald Trump expressed his displeasure with the north-heading horde directly to Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and has led calls for U.S. troops to be dispatched to border states to protect against illegal immigration.  A White House spokesperson had no comment on whether the U.S. student status of the refugees would temper the Administration’s response.

Meanwhile, the college students appear to be keeping their spirits high.  Taking a final sip of water from his Señor Frogs commemorative shot glass, Bryant glanced up at the road ahead.  “Just 5,250 miles to Worcester, Massachusetts.  I should be back just in time for the fall semester.”
